Guiyang

I found a great website that tells all about Jaxon's province Guizhou & the city Guiyang where his orphanage is. Here is the description of Guiyang:

Introduction to Guiyang:

Guiyang is a beautiful, hilly city situated on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau in Southwest China. The history of Guiyang, although it was not always called Guiyang, dates back over two thousand years. It was only in 1913 that Guiyang was first made the capital of Guizhou and still later, in 1941, was officially established as a city.

Guiyang is located on the side of the Guishan Mountain with an elevation of over 3200 feet (1000 meters). In Chinese, Guiyang means being on the sunny or southern side of Guishan Mountain. The old walled city was built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and only in the the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) did Guiyang become the capital of Guizhou. Since being established as a municipality it has developed slowly into a big city, with a population of over one million people. As an administrative area it has a population over three million.

Guiyang has many rivers and lakes. The Huaxi River and the Xiaoche River run through the suburban areas. Within the city parks are several lakes including Baihua Lake, Aha Lake and Qianling Lake. There are also historic and cultural sites in Guiyang. The Hongfu Monastery, Sanyuan Palace, Yangming Temple and Jiaxiu Pavilion, all with a history of several hundred years.

Guiyang is a developing industrial city. In the past forty-odd years, Guiyang has achieved a great deal, especially since 1978 when China began to adopt a reform and open-door policy. It is the center for roads and railways that connect Guizhou with all parts of China, in particular Sichuan, Yunnan, Guangxi, Guangdong and Hunan Provinces. Guiyang Luzhuang Airport and the newly-built Longdongbao (Guiyang) Airport have an increasing number of flights to most major cities in China and to Hongkong. The brand-new airport is only six miles (10 km) from Guiyang.

Guiyang is in a subtropical region with a moist and warm climate, so mild that even during the hottest month (July), the average temperature is 75° F (24° C) and in the coldest part of winter (the first ten days of January) it averages 40° F (4.6° C), the annual average temperature being 60° F (15.3° C). That is why Guiyang is called another spring city.

Can't wait to go possibly in June!!!

Blessings, Tracey
